A few nice dominate images I found:

Maharaja of Patiala visits the Western Front

The gun itself dominates the picture and dwarfs the men who are standing around it. There is a piece of sky and the top of a tree visible in the background which give the picture context. The rest of the picture is quite technical because it is so close up. Most of the engineering is clearly visible. The gun runs on tracks which can be seen along the bottom of the photograph. There are two men standing on the bridge of the gun where it is loaded and fired from. Underneath this standing on the tracks are turbaned and uniformed soldiers. They are surveying the gun with great interest. It is thought that John Warwick Brooke took this photograph.

Visits from and entertainment of foreign dignitaries was an important public relations exercise. It was not only a chance for display but also to foster or cement working relationships.

Dunston, Gateshead July 1971

Dunston Power Station, dominates the centre left of the photograph with Vickers Engineering Works across the Tyne. The Newcastle to Carlisle railway line bisects the image and you can pick out an engine on the line almost in the centre of the shot. Work on the Metro Centre began in 1984 on the large area derelict land on the left. The famous Dunston ‘Rocket’ flats can be seen on the horizon.

Portuguese cooks

The photograph is dominated by a kitchen unit on carriage wheels. Although this piece of equipment looks more like an engine it is in fact comprised of different types of ovens, grills and ‘bain maries’. The doors and lids are all clearly visible. One of the soldiers is leaning up against the edge of the van while another soldier is leaning across the wheel to peer into one of the pots. Three other soldiers are standing around looking on. The landscape is dusty and sunny with small bushes framing the horizon.

This photograph shows that regardless of the nationality of the army, the logistics faced and services required by the soldiers were the same.
